It’ haunting and beautiful and makes me fall in love with downtown Edmonton all over and over and over again.

There is magic in this family portrait for me. Maybe it’s because I’ve been photographing this family since, well, since this baby was literally a twinkle in his mother’s eye. They are a gorgeous family and seem happier every time I shoot them. It’s a great reminder that life is really good.

I love the choices that these two made for their engagement portrait. We always tell our clients, wear light – medium or dark from head to toe, and you need to match each other. It doesn’t have to be the same, if just needs to go together like a paint swatch from the hardware store or your purse and your shoes. This is a great version of that, polka-dots and stripes make this black and white shot a textural superstar. Look at the way the brick, the iron the strips and the dots go together and create visual interest, but don’t overpower the subject. How clever is that?
